The European Cyclo-cross Championships, which will be held on 1, 2 and 3 November at the Illa das Esculturas in Pontevedra, will be free of charge and open to the public thanks to the Pontevedra City Council.
Great news for cyclo-cross lovers and for fans who want to experience and enjoy the European Championships 2024. In its commitment to host the best international sporting events, the City Council of Pontevedra guarantees free access to the Illa das Esculturas circuit, on the banks of the Lérez River, where the fight for the continental cyclo-cross titles will take place.
Usually, the most prestigious cyclo-cross competitions in Europe and the United States require the purchase of tickets to access the venues and circuits where the races are held. Something that also happens in our country with the World Cup in Benidorm, recently created but very successful. In order to try to maximise the number of spectators and at the same time encourage any resident of the city to experience the European Championships at the beginning of November, the Pontevedra City Council has arranged for admission to be free, which means that several thousand people are expected to attend one of the biggest cycling events of the year.
The 2024 edition of the European Cyclo-cross Championships will include, in addition to the traditional elite, under-23 and junior races, both male and female, the celebration for the first time of the masters races in this European competition. In this way, the participation of cyclists will practically double in an event contested by national teams and whose current champions are Michael Vanthourenhout (Belgium) and Fem van Empel (Netherlands) in the elite category.
CX Pontevedra and the Galician Cycling Federation will continue to carry out promotional activities to ensure that the 2024 European Cyclo-cross Championships in A Boa Vila will be a sporting success and also a great success in terms of attendance.
