On Wednesday 18 September, at 12 noon, the Plaza da Peregrina in Pontevedra will host the official presentation of the 2024 European Cyclo-cross Championships to be held in the Illa das Esculturas on 1, 2 and 3 November.
In an event presided over by the Mayor of Pontevedra, Miguel Anxo Fernández Lores, the public and the media will discover all the details of an event that will attract the best cyclo-cross riders on the continent to compete in a competition that will crown the new European Champions in all categories.
Successive visits by delegations from the European Cycling Union, including an official reception for the president of the organisation by the mayor of Pontevedra, have allowed progress to be made on the work that will turn the Illa das Esculturas into the epicentre of cyclo-cross during the three days of the competition.
In addition, thanks to the City Council of Pontevedra, entry to the competition will be free, in contrast to the usual fee paid for access to the events in Belgium or the Netherlands, where cyclo-cross is a mass sport. In its commitment to host the best international sporting events, the corporation guarantees free access to the circuit, on the banks of the Lérez River, where the fight for the continental cyclo-cross titles will take place.
The UEC keeps the registrations for the master’s race of the European Cyclo-cross Championships open. These rounds will be held on 1 November in Pontevedra, on the Illa das Esculturas circuit. It will be the first time that cyclists with a master’s licence from 35 years of age will be able to participate in the European Championships, riding with their team and not for national teams.
